Research interests

I am par­ti­cu­lar­ly in­te­rested in un­der­stan­ding the spa­tio­tem­po­ral va­ria­bi­li­ty of the mor­pho­lo­gy and sedimentology, i.e. the sur­fi­ci­al se­di­ment grain-size dis­tri­bu­ti­on, in re­s­pon­se to dif­fe­rent hydro­dy­na­mic dri­vers and sce­na­ri­os. Process-based morphodynamic models with multiple sediment fractions are applied at bar­ri­er is­land sys­tems in the Wad­den Sea and at the Weser estuary. At bar­ri­er is­land ti­d­al in­lets, by­pas­sing and pathways of distinct sand frac­tions have been distinguished. Mor­pho­dy­na­mic mo­dels are ap­p­lied to esti­ma­te ad­ap­ta­ti­on time­sca­les of the mor­pho­lo­gy and the sur­face se­di­men­to­lo­gy from post-storm to fair-wea­ther con­di­ti­ons. Within the current project FAUST, I study the effect of bedforms on estuarine sediment dynamics.
